New Obsession: Mexico....I've never really been but I'd sure like to go.....
I'm clearly a total trend-hopper as I'm loving all the Mexican trends coming in to stores for spring/ summer in Europe.
Summer is just departing us in Sydney: but then it ever really arrived anyway so I’m very much on this trend bandwagon now!
I had a thing for Frida Kahlo when I was a teenager and so, inspired by the Mexican trend, I went and dug out the film Frida starring Selma Hayek. The film is still awful but the costumes, the colour, the artwork and the real Frida the woman and the artist: are as vibrant and inspiring as ever.
Under Frida’s influence I felt compelled to adorn myself with colours and flowers and what do you know: My friend Jo (of JoDeska) has a fab store Halfhalf with her friend Laura that sells lots of beautiful colourful headpieces.
So I commissioned a piece, sending them some Frida pictures to set the mood:
Frida on the cover of French Vogue circa 1931
…and on a Tatty Devine necklace circa now.
(and soon to be on my neck when my parcel arrives!)
And this is what they came up with:
I love it so much!! It was exactly what I wanted!
Beautiful vibrant colours and a comfy headband to boot!
Also on the Mexican theme checkout this Awesome camera bag from Etsy that my Mum got me for my birthday. Have bought an SLR and been taking photography classes so hopefully my pictures will improve – but I needed something to store the camera in. Who wants some boring black camera bag when you can have one like this with a funky design? Thanks Mum!
I’m wearing it with:
- Pink sheer shirt-dress from Shitty Chic
- Sunglasses from ASOS
- Blue Suede creepers by Underground
- Necklace from H&M (a couple of years ago)
Thank you very much to Jo who also took the photos! Check out her other project Sparkapalooza a great resource and creative outlet to get yourself inspired to create.
