Aussie curves: Stripes

Better late than never! Glad I got something in for the Aussie Curves stripes theme as stripes are totally my favourite thing ever and I wear them almost every day.

Here I'm wearing this cool sheer oversized striped shirt called the Downtown Blouse by Domino Dollhouse (who are fast becoming my favourite plus-size store ever).

I'm wearing the shirt with:

- New purchase: the over-sized rose necklace from Sportsgirl
- Black drapey skirt by City Chic
Underground blue suede creepers from ASOS

Also trying a new slicked-back 'do also known as 'I've been wearing a big scarf round my head all day and now my hair is ironed flat'.

I do love that rose necklace though!

See y'all tomorrow for the next Aussie Curves post ;-)

Aussie Curves: Tribal

I've been anticipating the Aussie Curves Tribal theme for a while. I was planning on creating something fabulous out of all of the amazing tribal fabrics I own from Brixton markets in London - where I used to live.

I have managed to make this tribal top in the past and post it on the blog. Generally though, I just hoard fabric and never get round to doing anything with it. This time, my excuse is work: have been very busy over the last week - but I do PROMISE to do lots of exciting things with my fabric collection in future.....maybe :)

So instead of all the bright, colourful things I thought I'd be wearing for this theme, I decided to go to ye old faithful: BLACK

I was actually trying to emanate a celebrity here who's look at the recent VMA's I very much liked:

Yes, Rihanna! I think she has some really cool looks and I LOVED the giant jewellery, the headband, the colourblocking, the sheer fabric and the tunic over trousers in this look. It's really simple - but effective.

Here I've reversed the look by doing the sheer part on the bottom with this sheer split maxi skirt from Shitty Chic.

I also don't know if the headband and giant earrings are so much tribal as FLINTSONES but I don't care: dinosaur's are fucking cool anyway. The headband was just a cheapy one from rubi shoes and the giant beaded earring are from markets in Bangkok.

The beaded stretchy belt I picked up on my recent holiday to Bali. And the creepers are from Demonia via Clubwear Australia.

WARNING: Do NOT wear these creepers if you are prone to grogginess first thing in the morning and you try and do your blog photos in a rush before work. I accidentally trod on my cat's foot this morning while wearing these....and she's still not speaking to me :-p POOR PUSSCAT!

Aussie Curves: Sparkle

So for this week's Aussie Curves theme of 'Sparkle', I have a few more Blue Mountains pics from a couple of weeks ago. Just had so much fun getting all frocked up in that vintage location and striking a few silly poses:

Just call me Lady McPose-ington-Wankypants!

The "Sparkly" frock I've gotten is a flocked semi-sheer metallic silver jacquard fabric with a rose design: yet another find from my favourite op shop in the whole world: Rockdale Vinnies.

If you live in the area: stay the fuck away – it's MINE! ...I just always seem to get lucky there. It's funny how that happens though - everyone's got a lucky one. My Aunt Clare who lives around the corner from me, calls our local Vinnies her "Room of Requirement" (a la Harry Potter) as whenever she goes there with something specific in mind, it always seems to show up - while I NEVER have any luck there. Damn her.

Just try and keep me away from those Chesterfields....

Wore this little number to Brekky ...because who says you can't wear a bit of sparkle at Breakfast time?

I'm wearing it with:

-    Vintage floral turban hat: also from Rockdale Vinnies
-    Angular Cat-eye sunnies from Dangerfield
-    Black Skull Cowboy boots – another op-shop find but they're by Demonica

Aussie Curves: Celebrity Copycat

This weeks Aussie Curves theme is celebrity copycat. I've bent the rules slightly as rather than mimicking a famous person in particular, I've chosen instead to emanate a famous film:

Am sure you've seen plenty of the press' coverage of Baz Luhrman's upcoming Flapper- filled extravaganza: The Great Gatsby.

Paparazzi shots of Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Leonardo Dicaprio filming on the set of The Great Gatsby in Sydney last year. Image source here

Well as I mentioned, last weekend I went away on hols to the Blue Mountains, where my cousin and I stayed at the very historic and very glamourous Carrington Hotel.

Well I couldn't resist the opportunity to get all frocked up in vintage inspired attire to pay tribute to the surroundings.

So of course on Sat night we HAD to go down to the lounge for cocktails and I couldn't help but posing on every single one of the many Chesterfields and other couches they had scattered all over the place.

Martini anyone?

I love Chesterfields. It's how I got my pseudonym "Evie Chesterfield" from my friend Corin in London (she's an interior designer and she hates the things).

When I'm rich and famous I'm gonna have an entire big mansion completely upholstered in Chesterfield like a giant bouncy castle.

While the manager seemed bemused by the fact that I'd gone to the effort to get frocked up, I did get  a few weird looks from the other guests who were mainly all in jeans and t-shirts.

I hate how nobody gets dressed up anymore!  It's like they resent having to get dressed up in order to go out. But as per this great Andy Warhol quote I saw on Twitter yesterday:

“Fashion wasn’t what you wore someplace anymore; it was the whole reason for going” - Andy Warhol.

YES PEOPLE. Use going out as an opportunity not an obligation to get frocked up.

Anyway, yes Great Gatsby. LOVE the book: and the original film with Mia Farrow and Robert Redford:

But I hear Baz Luhrman's pushed back the release of his film until next year sometime which sucks because I can't WAIT to see it!

So in the meantime, you'll just have to make do with twenties Miss Evie: I think the resemblance to both Carey Mulligan and Mia Farrow is uncanny don't you?

Happy Flapping!

**Oops, I forgot to post what I'm wearing!

- Turban Hat - thrifted (Rockdale Vinnies: durr)
- Velvet Cropped jacket by Moss NZ (a couple of years ago)
- Black crushed satin Kitty slip dress by Nicki McClintock
- Black and Red flapper shoes by Ziera (as usual - not current - actually purchased these back when they were still called 'Kumfs' - a misleading name as these shoes are not 'kumfy' AT ALL!)
- "Pearl" necklaces - thrifted from Vinnies
