Aussie Curves: Celebrity Copycat

This weeks Aussie Curves theme is celebrity copycat. I've bent the rules slightly as rather than mimicking a famous person in particular, I've chosen instead to emanate a famous film:

Am sure you've seen plenty of the press' coverage of Baz Luhrman's upcoming Flapper- filled extravaganza: The Great Gatsby.

Paparazzi shots of Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Leonardo Dicaprio filming on the set of The Great Gatsby in Sydney last year. Image source here

Well as I mentioned, last weekend I went away on hols to the Blue Mountains, where my cousin and I stayed at the very historic and very glamourous Carrington Hotel.

Well I couldn't resist the opportunity to get all frocked up in vintage inspired attire to pay tribute to the surroundings.

So of course on Sat night we HAD to go down to the lounge for cocktails and I couldn't help but posing on every single one of the many Chesterfields and other couches they had scattered all over the place.

Martini anyone?

I love Chesterfields. It's how I got my pseudonym "Evie Chesterfield" from my friend Corin in London (she's an interior designer and she hates the things).

When I'm rich and famous I'm gonna have an entire big mansion completely upholstered in Chesterfield like a giant bouncy castle.

While the manager seemed bemused by the fact that I'd gone to the effort to get frocked up, I did get  a few weird looks from the other guests who were mainly all in jeans and t-shirts.

I hate how nobody gets dressed up anymore!  It's like they resent having to get dressed up in order to go out. But as per this great Andy Warhol quote I saw on Twitter yesterday:

“Fashion wasn’t what you wore someplace anymore; it was the whole reason for going” - Andy Warhol.

YES PEOPLE. Use going out as an opportunity not an obligation to get frocked up.

Anyway, yes Great Gatsby. LOVE the book: and the original film with Mia Farrow and Robert Redford:

But I hear Baz Luhrman's pushed back the release of his film until next year sometime which sucks because I can't WAIT to see it!

So in the meantime, you'll just have to make do with twenties Miss Evie: I think the resemblance to both Carey Mulligan and Mia Farrow is uncanny don't you?

Happy Flapping!

**Oops, I forgot to post what I'm wearing!

- Turban Hat - thrifted (Rockdale Vinnies: durr)
- Velvet Cropped jacket by Moss NZ (a couple of years ago)
- Black crushed satin Kitty slip dress by Nicki McClintock
- Black and Red flapper shoes by Ziera (as usual - not current - actually purchased these back when they were still called 'Kumfs' - a misleading name as these shoes are not 'kumfy' AT ALL!)
- "Pearl" necklaces - thrifted from Vinnies

  1. I love dressing up, and I don't get much of an opportunity. You're so right about people taking the easy way out. You look fabulous! The roaring 20's really suits you. I particularly love that shot of you with the martini...so fun!

  7. I always look forward to your posts, I just love your cheeky attitude. I totally agree with the effort thing, I always overdress for things. I may be a stay-at-home mum but I'm still going to wear my pretty dresses to school pick up! I absolutely LOVE your outfit, you look fantastic!

  8. What a perfect setting for these stunning photos! Love your look. Drooling over your shoes and top. Luscious! Looks like you enjoyed a great night. I'm guilty of not always dressing up. These challenges are motivating me to stop being so lazy.

  9. Amazing. Love the turban & dress, you look fantastic. If I'm going out I always overdress rather than under dress, I mean if you're going out you may as well go all out, right? :)
